PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER DATA OVERVIEW

Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) delivers many technical benefits as well as economically replacing copper cables and glass fiber. It is typically not used for very long distance transmission and/or high temperature situations. Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) is used for point-to-point data control functions while providing electrical isolation within and between application boxes. The technology has advanced to a level that 1GB Ethernet at 40 meter distance has been achieved with fast POF transceiver (Ref. to ISO/IEC/IEEE 8802-3:2017/FD, Amd 9 Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 1000 Mb/s Operation over Plastic Optical Fiber). Availability is in an assortment of cable designs and jackets, including UL rating for Riser and Plenum building codes, and difficult environments or industrial automation including robotic and chemical operations. Mitsubishi provides these products in spools.
