Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) used for many remote lighting applications has recently expanded to accommodate the use of LED’s as light sources. Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) lighting has been used for consumer products, such as toys, and a number of commercial applications as visual affects and for functional purposes. For these purposes, Mitsubishi provides plastic fibers in single elements, both small (250 micron) and large (>15mm), and in flexible fiber bundles. Fibers can be pre-cut and shaped to fit within a data oriented product box, as well as pre-terminated to fulfill any overall cable or fiber design.
The relatively recent interface of ESKA™ Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) in conjunction with LED technology provides testimony to fresh, new opportunities as with in-situ surgery procedures, critical site lighting, automotive & truck "lighting networks" and a variety of back-lit displays and signage.
As such, new meaning has been brought to the art & science of lighting due mainly to the contributions of Plastic Optical Fiber. At Mitsubishi, this was made possible with the use of fiber for small form illumination, which was previously dreamed about until now. With Plastic Optical Fiber (POF), Plastic Optical Fiber lighting can be both functional and decorative. Presented as either end-lit or side-lit, it employs the use of individual or bundled fibers as well as fiber optic cabling. Available in a range of fiber bundle sizes and/or shapes with cabling designed-in for specific projects.
